Print out a list of the order, especially if you "borrow" characters from other games. My mates and I had a blast, even though it was short. The murderer showed up 30 minutes late! My mum and I were really worried.

This was so much fun! Because I had a lot of people invited, I had to add quite a few characters! It was work, but oh so worth it.  We had been talking about it for weeks and on the day of the party, everyone started showing up in costumes that were hilarious. The best part was the variety of "southern" accents and the fact that everyone stayed in character right until the end!  There is no doubt I will host another type of Murder Mystery and I''m getting calls already from friends making sure they will be invited! Thanks for a memorable party theme!

we used this game to introduce my 2 brothers, sister-in-law and sister to our friends.  We had 14 participants, our 3rd and largest murder mystery yet!  Our menu included taco dip, cheeseburgers, potato salad, fruit salad, and margarita cake.  We had iced tea, Landshark beer and margaritas, of course.  We played a sand bag toss called "feed the shark", a fast-paced line up in alphabetical order by first name(dividing into 2 teams), and a memory game (a tray with 26 summertime items viewed for 30 sec, 90 sec to create your list).  We allowed plenty of time between meal courses for interviewing.  In the end, we tossed about numerous scenerios and 3 people deduced the murderer!  Fun was had by all.

I used the Murder in the Wild West (Teen version) my our daughter''s 14th birthday.  I think the storyline was good and the kids enjoyed themselves.  However, I did spend a lot of time printing out the clues and stuffing them into envelopes.  I think that if they sell ready-made kits at a reasonable price, it would be a great improvement to the game.  Overall, i still rate this game as excellent because I think the storyline and characters were interesting.

This was a Grand Slam.  My 4 murder mystery and counting . . .
Word is out and co-workers of my friends are wanting to be invited to next years event!  As soon as Death of a Pirate wrapped up 05/22/2010, everyone wanted to know next year''s theme!!!!!

Warmed the "crew" up with trivia questions about pirates and they received "booty bags" if answered correctly-pirate gear of course. . .

Came up with "fried parrot"/chicken; "cursed Aztec gold"/chipotle mac-n-cheese; BBQ Kracken/brisket and assorted Hardtack/chips & crackers.

Had a Rat holding the napkins down . . .

OTC had pirate skeleton goblets that everyone went crazy over!!

To date, best party I''ve done.  Each year, they keep getting better-Thanks.

Death of a Pirate

We hosted this murder for my daughter''s 13th birthday. We had 13 guests (all gifted kids) and they LOVED the party!! They got into character and had fun with it. It took a little longer to run than we anticipated as they were often ''hamming it up'' and playing up the clues. It was great!

We bought a bio-degradable coffin from a local dealer ($50) and made a ''body'' to go in it. We decorated and darkened the windows so we were to do it by candle light. We also downloaded (from iTunes) scary music and background sounds (like a ghost crying and squeaky doors). It really added to the ambiance of the event.

I highly recommend it and the parents asked if I''d host one for the grown ups because their kids said they had so much fun with it all!

Great game. It was a surprise party for my daughters 13th bday.  It included 10 girls, we made up 2 characters. Each girl had a mug shot taken and that was hung on the wall by her character.  Each received a notebook and pen which was helpful to keep track of info during the game. Large sheets of paper had each characters name on it in the order that the clue was to be given out.  The sheet was set in front of the group during the round that they were in.  This helped keep the game moving and it helped keep order.
A crime scene was set-up which added to the atmosphere.
The game took 3 1/2 hours and that included gift opening and short breaks in between rounds.
The girls had fun and really got into the characters as the evening progressed.  One person got bored but aside from that, the rest had fun and so did I.

I chose God ... it''s a murder to celebrate my wedding anniversary, 18 guests in total. The party was a success, everyone came dressed according to the slopes, I had sent earlier. The party was fun, all my guests talked about the costumes, the characters and the food. Buy a coconut cake decorated with grapes, decorate the house in the Greek style, a sangria made from grapes was the drink of the night. Everything went great, no hesitation in returning to be another murder mystery next year. Since right now all my friends ask me when it will make another party where no one will miss.

GREAT GODS....It's a MURDER!

We really enjoyed ''The Psycho Circus''. As the host, I read the solution and some of the clues beforehand, but I don''t know if that is really necessary-- as long as you pay attention to the instructions for each round the host could still participate in the game and it would go smoothly I think. We had 11 people in our early 30''s and everyone agreed it was really fun and interesting-- definitely something different to do! Dressing up in costumes was fun as well, they''re not just for Halloween anymore!

I had a GREAT time with the Deadly Ever After game.  We had 14 people (including me).  Everyone loved knowing who the characters were since they were based on literary characters.  I made feather pens for everyone to write with and that was fun.  I didn''t use any of the meal suggestions since this was more of a dessert party (a surprise birthday party).  I used a corked glass jar for the poison bottle and added a little bit of corn syrup mixed with green food coloring and attached the "Touchest Not Lest Ye Die" note to it.  Having the Arabian Nights book is totally unnecessary.  No one guessed why we had the wool ring.  The solution is not very obvious (the motive was lame but funny) unless they get all the correct answers to the beginning game: "Are YOU a storyteller?"  With 14 people it was hard to make sure everyone heard all the clues and put two and two together.  Everyone mixed and mingled around the dessert table while disclosing clues.  As a hostess I learned who the murderer was ahead of time.  I wish I hadn''t because I didn''t feel like I was as interested in playing the game, but it was really fun to watch everyone interact and try to be in character.  Everyone had a fantastic time and complimented me on the fun night.  It was the talk of town at church the next day.  :)

Deadly Ever After

Fairy Games was a blast! I played the king for the occasion of my daughter''s 9th birthday party, with 12 girls playing the various characters. I have a lot of experience with role-playing games, and was really impressed with both how well-planned and organized the directions are, and with the steady build-up of dramatic tension as the mystery progresses.
My primary advice to someone who''s going to host this mystery is to take time to prepare beforehand. We created a ''magical space'' to enact the drama by decorating our enclosed patio with "fairy stuff" - wispy and sparkly fabrics, leaves, vines, twigs, you get the idea - and fairy costumes for the players. This really got the girls into the narrative, and immersion in the story is what roleplay is all about. Another essential preparation is to read through the entire script in advance and familiarize yourself with the dramatic flow and how everything will fit together. What you''re doing is improv theater with no audience, only actors, and like good improv, the director needs to have a clear sense of where you want the story to go. Knowing what needs to happen for the drama to unfold will let you guide the action toward its resolution with ad lib clues, remarks, etc. A quick skim of the materials didn''t give me a sense of how it would all work, but once I read the entire script carefully it made perfect sense, and I realized how well-thought-out the Fairy Games scenario is. Our group had an absolute blast! Even now, three years later, both our daughters say that Fairy Games was the best birthday party we''ve ever done. Enjoy!

Fairy Games

I purchased "Murder in the Haunted House" on October 16 for a Saturday October 31, 2009 party. We host an annual halloween costume party but wanted something "different" year. I e-mailed my "save the date" to potential guests on September 17 after feeling out with a dozen or so who were interested. I sent this to a lot more than I expected would commit or show-up. On an average year we begin prop-building and thinking about layout in July. By September Labor Day we are decorating indoors. By October 1st our garage is shut off to outsiders. This is our favorite holiday and our number 1 fall priority. When I sent the "save the date" in September I started an excel spreadsheet with names, commitment (yes, no, maybe), the date of their RSVP, part assignment, what food/beverage item they could bring, and if they would be there for the Murder Mystery or the after party, banking on a 1.5-2 hour mystery based on the website. Because it was OSU homecoming we had a few who showed up later for the after-party.
As I received RSVPs, I knew I would have enough to purchase the game. After purchasing the game, I began assigning parts and soon realized I would need to "create" some extra parts. My part was wife of the homeowner, non-active part. This was good because I had way to much to do during the party. I didn''t tell the guests who had "real" or "created" parts. Only a couple of people left when they realized they didn''t have an active role.  I had to create motives for the extras but it wasn''t too hard. If you''re creative its really fun. I think everyone finally logged in to the site to view their character by the week of the party. By that time I had 30 assigned parts. There were a couple of folks that cancelled and I had to find replacements for which worked out fine. The week before the party I printed off all the clues. I put all the clues for each character in a homemade envelope from recycled paper and decorated with halloween stamps/ink. This was the most time consuming party. Cutting, glueing, labeling. When people arrived: they "checked-in".We provided all the alcohol but some brought alcohol instead of a food item. Alcohol and food we supplied totaled about $200. Plus the cost of the game. And the cost of prizes. We had a prize for the killer (he knew) for being a good actor, prize for the person who guessed (we only had 1 correct), then prizes for various costume categories (we always have that). It was a tremendous amount of work, but I think everyone had fun. We had a lot of international students and except for 1 person, no one had ever played a murder mystery before. Our age group was 25-60 about. I sent weekly emails updating everyone as to who was coming ( I sent a partial spreadsheet). Some were very nervous as to how it would go down. So, we had a casual snacking buffet.  We began in the haunted garage with the dead body. After we read the first 3 rounds, we took a break and regathered at the bonfire in the backyard. Problem 1) People took too long on the break....about 25 minutes for the first one...about 20 for the second one. Problem 2) Lighting. For Halloween the house is darker and even with colored bulbs it was  a little dark for some, but it was okay. I wouldn''t change that. However, at the bonfire, I had to constantly add wood to keep enough flames to create light in the seating circle. Luckily we had some flashlights and folks shared. So how did we get it going? One person always started...someone (Usually Adam Family) had a question to ask...then someone answered and if they also had a question to ask...they did. So we went one right after the other and everyone in the circle could see and hear the responses and all the questions/answers. This worked well. And some folks got into "acting" out their parts well. For the most part everyone read from the clues. No one tried to memorize. The party began at 8:30 with some arriving earlier. (we thought folks would be getting trick or treaters so we started later). The game ended around 11:15.m. Obviously it went a lot longer than 1.5-2 hours stated in the game. This was not a problem for most but I was worried. Most left then but some stayed until about 2am which was fun. People were able to drink beverages during the game. Giving everyone their packet of clues (each round with in the packet was stapled and sealed with a tiny piece of tape) worked well and should have made things faster but with drinking/eating/socializing, it was hard to control. We don''t allow shoes in our house, so most went from the garage (food/beverages) to the sunroom to the bonfire. Four people showed up an hour early for the "after party" and ending up leaving before the MM was over. You can have extras just be non active audience but they need to realize they will have no part. Even the "created" characters could show reactions to questions/answers to make it lively. Like a soap opera. Everyone with a part was able to guess (secret ballot) and its actually less stressful for the extras I assigned because after round 2 have they no speaking parts. Just taking notes and trying to figure out who did it. I had one surprise extra: someone''s boyfriend who came as a policeman. He arrested the killer when he was announced. It was very funny because he had handcuffs. I would do it again, but it is a lot of work. And you need reliable folks who will rsvp, and show up.
People who will hopefully realize how much work you put into it.   Planning and decorating took two months but the final two weeks are crazy. Costumes can be cheap & simple and we required them.

Case of the Disappearing 'Dance Diva'

We''ve done several murder mysteries over the past three years and this one was done for a birthday party. I have to say that the game was enjoyable, but still confusing. We read all the characters, even if they weren''t there, because otherwise you have some random clues flying around. Overall though, it was enjoyable. Unfortunately the killer couldn''t make it so that part wasn''t as fun for us.

Deadly Ever After

We had a really great time with this mystery.  We only had 6 people, and although the game includes 8 characters, I appreciated that it told which characters could be cut out, and who to redistribute their clues to. The game was very simple and easy, so it''s good for first-timers.  However, the character descriptions were pretty short- so occasionally, someone would accuse another person of something, and that person would have no idea how to respond. Some of the clues we had to hide seemed kind of silly, because they had to do with other people- and so the topic never came up.  (It would have been better if the information was something about ourselves.)  But overall, we had a great time.  The murderer didn''t know who they were until the last scene, and we had a really great discussion about our guesses before the murderer was revealed.  Lots of fun!

The Murder Game

The game was an absolute blast. Our guests came in character and everyone came with the best attitude. We played three rounds before dinner, then ate, then played the rest of the game.  All-in-all, the night last 3.5 hours. We went to sleep knowing that it was a great night. My husband and I have now committed to hosting a murder mystery two times a year.

A Murder in Provence

I purchased A Murder in Margaritaville.  It was a blast.  Everyone enjoyed it even the skeptical ones.  My husband kept telling me to cancel the murder mystery and we would just hang out.  A half hour into the party he is planning the next murder mystery.
My sister-in-law was skeptical. She didn''t want a part.  One of my other guests canceled so she played that part to help me out.  At the end of the night she was so glad she did.
Most everyone wore a costume and stayed in character.  It was funny to hear peoples guesses throughout the night.
Host-party has so much information and different tools.  I wouldn''t think of going to another website or a store to buy my next murder mystery.  The invitation tracker is great as well as the drink estimator.  It was right on.
The website is so easy to navigate and has everything you need.
I really like that they have so many different options to print your game, either yourself or sending it to Kinkos where you can pick it up.
We had a blast.  It was fun to decorate like we were in a tropical place, dress the part, and play a character.
I will definitely be playing another one and would recommend this to anyone.

Desperate Neighbors

This game was pretty entertaining, we played with a group of 14 people who are all in their 20''s or 30''s. Instead of being teenagers in present time we were teenagers in the 80''s, which added a whole other element of cheesy fun to the game. I did have to adjust some of the characters to be appropriate for the 80''s but it all turned out pretty well and everyone had fun. I was the host & thought it was extremely helpful for me to go into the game knowing who did it, I would also say that it would have been a little easier to play the game with about 6 less people because with 14 there was ALOT going on & some of the info was missed because of that. Some of the characters were a little bit confused about how the clues read as well but all in all it was a success. We would definitely play another mystery game again!

Love Potion Number Five

We had a great time playing the game. Overall, we all agreed that the clues could be a little more specific about who the potential murderer could be in the 3 round compared to everyone still having the finger pointed at them. It was hard for everyone to find 1920''s costumes so we just stuck to the color scheme. next time I''ll find a agame that uses more props. I would buy another game from this site!

The Murder Game

Paddy O’Really is dead.  Oh, really?  Yes, really… But the fun and laughter lives on!  “Paddy O’Really is Dead” is a wonderfully written and conceived murder mystery by Nora Louise Syran.  It has all the aspects expected in an intriguing and engaging mystery including interesting characters, plot twists, and shocking reveals.

An endearing aspect of “Paddy O’Really is Dead” is its Irish bent.  The rich culture of the Irish people provides a hearty context for the mystery and a colorful backdrop for the characters.  This mystery is not only for hosts looking to create a unique St. Patrick’s Day event, but is also a vibrant and fun party anytime of the year for anyone who has an interest in or connection to Irish culture.

The delightful mix of characters includes the priest, the golfer, the blacksmith, the local loony, the musician, the pub owner, the writer, the horsewoman, and the victim.  The roles of the characters are well balanced throughout the rounds of the game and the depth of the characters becomes evident quickly as the game progresses.

The rounds of the game, themselves, are skillfully created so that the clues are not revealed too quickly and solving the mystery remains challenging and entertaining until the end.  In addition the rounds vary from one to the next in how they are constructed, which avoids unnecessary repetition.  The author uses a variety of fun tools to move the mystery forward including telephone calls, a torn note, and a discovered letter.  Overall, the rounds of the game are very well conceived and keep the partygoers on their toes.

This murder mystery is suggested for a dinner party of 6 or 8 people.  This reviewer hosted the 8-person version and was very pleased.  The optional characters added to the enjoyment of the game.

Overall, you cannot go wrong with “Paddy O’Really is Dead,” especially the 8-person version.  This is a skillfully crafted, witty and thoroughly enjoyable murder mystery dinner party.

Paddy O'Really is Dead

I have just finished hosting the Teen Girl version for my daughters birthday party - what a blast they all had.  I had tweaked the clues so that no one knew if they were the murderer or not and this helped as a dozen 12 yr olds would not have been able to keep a secret had they known in advance.

I played a detective who set up the investigation in a separate room and kept ''borrowing'' suspects for additional questioning.

I also fingerprinted them all (download the FBI fingerprint card template - it makes for a great souvenir) and took mug shots which I used to build their ''files''

We kept the menu nice and relaxed, finger food and a chocolate fountain for afters and it flowed really well.

I had been a little concerned beforehand that some of the clues were quite in depth, but I needent have been, they all coped very well with reading and acting on cue

All in all, a fantastic night was had by everyone, me included :)

Death by Chocolate (all girl teen version)

Murder at the Chinese Teahouse is a good murder mystery ( out of the 10-12 that I have tried). There where many twists and turns which made for a interesting story. I would highly recommend that the secondary character Chou Chou, the kitchen helper, be included. She added a lot to the story.

The mystery itself was difficult to guess and was mostly a game of guessing motives. In my game, the murderer got 0 accusations, with 3 accusations against 1 character and the rest somewhat distributed between 4 others.

Annoyingly, there was an error in the text of the maid, which caused some problems, but we figured it out quickly and got around it.

We had a spend-the-night party and used The Hip Hop Murder as the main attraction.  It was a great mystery, and the plot was flexible enough that, when one girl had to cancel, we were able to re-write it and incorporate her part into the others.  The girls were a little shy when it came time to perform their hip-hop dances (they were told about the dances ahead of time so they could prepare...), so we made it optional to dance with a friend.  They all did.  Once, when the music was fun, it became a group dance.  I was pleasantly surprised at how well the girls "got into" their roles.  This is the 2nd time we have used host-party and have been pleased both times. We did make more use of the website this year, using their on-line invitations and the girls posted to one another.

Deadly Ever After

Albuquerque, NM. This was my first Murder Mystery Dinner as either a host or a participant.  We played Murder in the Snow, I had planned for 11 people but 2 of my players couldn''t make it.  We decided that they also had been murdered, by the same killer who killed Eddie.  When other players had answers to the questions of these ''dead'' players, the living players just answered, it was very funny to get the answer but no questions.

I had food that was easy, the only cooking that night was the salmon on cedar planks, but other than that I had stuff pre-made, which let my husband and I really participate.  I would recommend easy food.  The few minutes away to grill the fish, was great for people to talk about their real selves.  And, to ham up their characters even more.

Not all the friend invited knew each other and it was a really fun way to get people engaged, there was much laughing, and it was so simple to do.  I will totally do this again.  We are already planning an outdoors mystery bbq for the summer with 20+ people.

Murder in the Snow

This game was fantastic! We all had so much fun and the characters were hilarious! Everyone stayed in character all night and we had lots of fun with the ''well hung'' gallery theme! You can imagine the type of pictures we had on display! All of my friends have gone away raving how good the night was as none of us had ever done anything like this before! It will def become an annual theme for my birthday! The only thing i would say is make the food as simple and easy to serve as possible as the game is quite involved and as host aswell as being a character it was quite a challenge! I also had my sisters boyfriend come along for the first hour as ''butler'' serving cocktails to all the girls and then ''police detective'' to announce the murder! He did a fantastic job and really helped to kick the evening off! After that it was really easy just handing out the clues during each round and then getting everyone talking about who they think ''dunnit'' at the end of each round. I did prizes, little bottles of champagne, for best sleuth, best performer and best costume and the girls loved it and we also did goody bags as it was a gallery opening with things like chocs and shot glasses etc in. Everyone had a really fab night so thank you to host party for such a good game!

We had such a fun time and there were enough clues that only a couple people guessed it right.  We felt it went on a litle too long (3.5 hours) but had a great time.  The final round before the solution round didn''t seem neccessary and could have been taken out.  BUT, we had a blast - everyone got way into it and had great costumes!

Horror in the Haunted House

We did this murder mystery for my daughter''s 13th b-day party.  We had a limo pick up all the kids and bring them to the house. When they arrived a friend of mine and myself were dressed as waiters and we brought them in and gave them all note pads and pens, and then we had Sherlock Holmes start by telling the back ground of the story and what had happened.  My friend and I went around serving drinks and as we did that we handed the clues out to them.

It was so much fun. The kids really got into there characters and it was great fun!  We used the fingerprint analyzer, but I think that it really just confused them.  I think that it should give out some sort of clue on each suspect.  And it said match on everyone except the one person that did do it.  So I think that that could be done a little better.  But the game itself was a blast and the kids just had the best time!

DEATH BY CHOCOLATE
For my fifteenth birthday, I decided I would do a murder mystery. After researching for a while, I eventually found this website. The system of creating an account and receiving all the needed information, ideas, etc. by reading those printouts was perfect, for I had less than two weeks until the actual event, and shipping these "how to host a murder" games from the UK might have taken too long. Organizing the papers can take a while, so organize them systematically. I had one folder for each character and placed the neatly cut clues for Round 1 in one plastic sleeve, then had a coloured sheet next, followed by another plastic sleeve, containing Round 2 (with another coloured (dividing) sheet afterwards), and so on. The whole process was worth it, though. On the day, I had an amazing time and the guests did too. Because we had "Death by Chocolate", we truly had a chocolate theme going on then; starting with chocolates simply decorating the table, to tasting chocolate samples and then having a chocolate fondue! I would definatelly recommend this to anybody, though- for it truly was a really fun experience solving the murder mystery!

Overall, it was a good time had by all.  When I first printed this out, all 122 pages I was mortified because the writing and the trivia is totally hokey but that just added to laughs had by all when one had to utter the words.  I was impressed by my friends how far they went and how into their characters they were it was really hilarious.

This was even more fun than anticipated! We had about 20 people come and we created characters for the extras. The one thing I did that helped a lot was to push several tables together to form one large table so that everyone was interacting.

This game worked well for Chinese New Year.  We ordered takeout, but also provided a selection of Chinese nibbles and a Tray of Happpiness (dried fruits).  We packaged the clues for each round in felt fortune cookies and various origami envelopes.  We started with the takeout meal (so it wouldn''t get cold), then did rounds 1-3.  After this we had a tea ceremony (with Chinese pee boys), and Ah SI Now read our cups and offered Chinese wisdom.  After dessert, we tried to guess the murderer, then read out the final round and confession.  We gave out Chinese red envelopes containing a Chinese New Year postage stamp celebrating the Year of the Tiger.  The evening finished by turning on our LED "fireworks" and picture taking, including our usual group shots.  I put together a composite picture as a souvenir whenever we do a murder mystery.

I like to do a murder mystery associated with a holiday celebration.  Last year we did a Mardi Gras based party - it was fun too.

We had an awesome time playing chinese take-out murder mystery.
We were all first-timers (host and guests), and all my guests surprised me with their enthusiasm.
The dress ups were fun, the decorations were an ease (paper lanterns, special clues in red pockets) and the story-line''s quite interesting.

Best party we''ve ever had, however, the murder mystery was confusing to everyone participating.  A more detailed script of what the characters were to do would have been helpful.  Each character could have had more details and clues.
None of the other guests/character knew what to ask the characters. I think a list of investigator questions should be supplied to the guests and each character should know how to answer the questions to make it more fun.

I had a LOT of fun with this game!!!  I had a group of 8 people perform it to an audience of 80!  We broke up the mystery into 5 acts, and in between each "act," everyone ate appetizers and desserts, and the cast mingled with the audience.  My friends are great actors and they did a terrific job.  It was an excellent event!  For Round 8, we turned off all the lights in the house, and we shone a light into the face of each cast member as they delivered their clue.  We turned all of the lights on again as the murderer uttered the word "Cyanide."  It was a GREAT party!!!

We had an absolute blast.  I turned our house into a trailer park, christmas lights, pinwheels, lawn ornaments, used a bassinet as a cooler, spam pyramid, hostess desert tower, nascar posters, pork rinds, and loads of other details all around the house.  Everyone came in character and really got into it.  It was our first time and I was not sure how everyone would react.  A total home run.  Story was fun and no one actually guessed the murdered.  The best part was the beer pong table, we played between rounds and it really helped loosen everyone up.  The word is spreading, others want in and everyone wants to know when the next party is.  We will be doing this every 4 months or so.  Great product.  Thanks.

Played this with our homeschool group, a wide variety of ages, both adult and children. This was a great "first" mystery party game. We added some extra characters, and had I personally been better organized, it would have been truly perfect. As it was, everyone wants to do another mystery this year and one teen exclaimed to me this was the best event our group has ever done. This paticular story was hilarious fun and harmless, well put together, and had great flexibility. I highly recommend it, especially if you have a group wanting something without murder or without innuendo or adult themes.

We had this for my daughter''s 12th birthday party.  She said it was her best party ever.  She had 9 girls in attendance so we had to ''borrow'' a couple characters from a different mystery but the site may that relatively easy to do.  My husband played Detective Dimwitty and so was able to guide the party and questions along (we had him take mugshots of each girl as well).  The girls had a blast and Melanie is already planning another mystery party for her 13th birthday.

We played the trailer trash mystery on New Years Eve with 4 couples. We had lots of fun with the costumes and role playing.  The mystery itself takes a back seat to the characters and the attempted accents etc.  We changed the game a bit in that in order to get more clues read aloud (because it''s fun) each character read their all clues aloud, even the concealed clues.  Suggest future games incorporate more recitals by each character.  More pre-game clues via the website would be fun.

Thanks, it was fun and easy.

I held this party for 10 year old girls.  They seemed to have a great time.  I ordered this honestly with only 5 days before the party.  I had searched and decided on this party earlier and read that it was all available to download, so I waited knowing that it was all at my fingertips.  This was a mistake.  This game takes a lot of preparation.  It is not hard just a lot of cutting and pasting etc.  You also need some time for the girls to study the animal tips which should be e-mailed ahead of time.  All in all I would order from this site again.  This particular game was good for the girls that were invited as they learned about animals.  If you had a more rowdy group of kids they might not want to spend the time on the learning part of this mystery.

We all had a blast doing this party.  It was easy, and with the right preparation everyone can have fun.  I could definitely tell that if the players were more experienced, the party would flow better, but everyone seemed to have a great time even though they were not experienced at murder mystery.  The set up of the game into rounds controlled by the host definitely made it easier.  Lastly, I agree that the host (and possibly one other person for extreme beginners) should know most of everything that is going on with each player so that they can help everyone move things along.  I went around and dropped hints to the players to make sure the other players were giving all the information they were supposed to, and it seemed to help get conversations flowing.  We all had a lot of fun, and it was amazing how long everyone seemed to stay in character even after the mystery was revealed.

Our group of 12 close friends decided that we would like to do something different this year for our New Year''s Eve Pary.  We chose to host a mystery, "Murder Before Midnight".  We expected the mystery to fit right in with our New Year''s theme, but it actually did not have much to do New Year''s Eve at all.  However, a good time was had by all!  The costumes were easy to get-together and everyone looked great!  The best tip we have is to stay in character for the entire mystery, beginning to end!  The more you get into character, the better!

Murder Before Midnight

I hosted this party for my daughter''s 13th birthday. All the girls dressed in character & had a blast. No one figured out who the culprit was. I changed the trivia questions to relate to things they would understand (trying to keep it in the 70''s era & keeping the answer the same). I had theme food (i.e. fondues, candy etc.) & had our basement decorated like a disco. I also several rooms in our house set up as the office, the main character''s bedroom, the dining area with clues all around. I sent out the first clue and a notebook, mood ring & pencil to all the girls a week before. I think it helps to have them understand the game a little before they came. I took about 2 1/2 hours to play. A lot of fun to get into the the party & characters! Will definately host another party.

Desperate Neighbors

We had a great time doing the Mistletoe Madness.  We did it the day after Christmas and the house was decorated, carols were playing and ready for our "guests".  The mystery was good, but it was a little disjointed at times.  We''ve done others and this one had less clues to work with and there were also some things the characters were doing that was never explained or brought into the discussion.  A little more confusing than others, but, it was fun and a good time was had by all.  And, we ALL guessed the murderer wrong, so that was a nice twist at the end for us. And, we were able to fully cast this murder mystery, which does help playing the "game".

This was fun.  The best thing about it is the sharing of clues and laughs!  You have to pay attention and force yourself not to be shy. I found that the more outspoken and outrageous you are, the more fun you have and so does everyone else.  The best part is the reactions you get when someone reveals a little-known clue.  Also, just preparing yourself for the character you are playing, including dressing up, your general attitude, etc. and discovering what makes the other characters tick.

We did this mystery for my son's 11th birthday with 12 boys (plus me/mom as the Librarian).  It was really easy to add an extra character, and to change the few characters who were girls into boys.

Over all, this was a hugely successful party.  We had done a themed birthday party at home once before that I created myself.  While that was also a lot of fun and successful, everyone said this one was the best.  Also, there was a lot less prep to do for this party.

We had a blast with this party.  We decorated in Fall colors for Shopin''s 40th birthday party.  We served Chocolate Martini Smoothies - non-alcoholic of course since it was a few girls from church getting together---everyone brought a dish, we had a fondue pot as well.  I made everyone name tags and paper-clipped them to the goodie bags (which were filled with tons of great chocolate, a pen and a tablet for note taking). Death of a Department Store Santa

We did the full 15 participants. This was NOT our first Murder Mystery Dinner game but it was the first through this company.

All the pre-game supplies were wonderful and helpful.  I loved the email capability for invites, communications and clues.

However, this game was a bit confusing for first timers and even those of us who were experienced.  Clues should have been more outlined for when each participant should state a fact as sometimes a participant would reveal their own clue before it was set-up by another member!

Also, the script should have been written in first person "I didn''t kill Frank" or use the 3rd person "you didn''t kill the Frank" in a separate set-up paragraph.  Some folks were more comfortable just reading straight from their script and kinda hard to convert 3rd person to 1st person on the fly.

Despite the confusion during Round 0 & 1 {our guests had lots of patience!} we did a recap before Round 2 to remind everyone that every clue/challenge they have had to be tossed out and if they had an answer to a challenge, let the group know that someone was slacking!

We really recommend that the hosts read the script all the way through and don''t assign a major character to themselves so they can help the rest of the guests.

We passed out awards at the end for Top Banana actor & Cheesiest costume/acting.   We also drew and outline of the body on the front porch to represent poor Frank!  Guests loved it!!

So I was a semi seasoned MM player, but we had several newbies and a couple of really older gentleman attend and the concensus was that everyone had a blast. One of the parties I had attended in the past and maybe it is the team building side of the MMs but there were more indepth bios and the guests had clues they had to share and clues they needed to try and hide. This had very few characters with actual parts. Again may have been the wrong type of party but we used the suggestion of the pass phrases that came with the game and that part was not only fun but funny. We are thinking of making this an annual event. Thank you so much for this site and the quality of the game.

We had a blast.  I decorated my basement, making a kind-of maze for the guests to walk through the "dungeons" to get to the party room.  Everything was covered in black table clothes and tons of spider webs.  It was a lot of work, but it looked great. I made chili and cornbread and pasta with a veggies red sauce. I had 17 people, so I had to create 3 characters which wasn''t too hard, and I got to add some pretty funny dialogue. We ended up going around the table to read all the clues because we had so many people.  It worked out pretty well and we all had a lot of fun.  No one guessed the murderer, but no one minded.  This game was totally worth it and I can''t wait to start planning my next party!

This was our first murder mystery party and it was a blast. We had it on Halloween, age ranged from 21-40 years old and we had about 18 guests which means we added some characters like Little Bo Peep, Merlin...etc. It was so easy to add characters into the plot, though you have to be a bit creative, but no one could tell who was an original or added character, it was seemless. The storyline was great, and the clues were very well written. The email and invitation tools were so helpful in easy mass communication and it was nice that everyone got a chance to log-on to the website to see the details and guest list of the party. I highly reccomend this game!

Murder at Spooky Castle

An excellent product which was better than we could possibly have expected.  The ability to customise was useful as we personalised bits to suit our guests.
We had a group of 9 and used one of the "optional" characters.  No-one had any idea she was an extra and actually got accused of the murder with good reasons.
Even though 4 of the group had never done a murder party before they soon got the hang of things.
We did a couple of rounds before dinner, and one between each course.  Overall it lasted about about 6 hours and everyone said it was the best 6 hours they had ever spent.

The only extra thing we did, which worked very well, was to replace much of the scene-setting script from the butler with a video from the host of the party (who was sleeping prior to being murdered) made by a couple of amateur dramatic friends of ours.

Enjoyed the game. There were many characters, which tends to confuse the issues, which is the object, of course. Key to the fun is to get people into their roles, which occurred in our game. The two most popular suspects were Eve and Richard.

One question: if Ian''s death was an accident, why didn''t Pastor Twitcher call the police when it happened? That implies that it wasn''t an accident, or at least makes Twitcher complicit in the deacon''s death, which would be a crime short of murder. Also, it''s misleading when everyone is focused on murder, including motive, opportunity, etc.

Keep up the good work.

The Murder Mystery that my friends and I played, Horror in the Haunted House (all girl teen version) was amazing! We all had SO much fun, and only 1 out of 14 people suspected the murderer! Two of the guests dropped out at the last minute, and thank gosh they were optional guests! We did fine without them, I just told the guests to skip those clues. Everyone was itching for their next clue envelope as soon as they had finished because they wanted to learn as much as they could about all the suspects. We had a very laid back setting, where we mingled and asked eachother any questions we wanted. We all really got into character and added lots of feeling when delivering our lines. A really fun part of the game was just chilling with the other guests and asking them about the gossip they had heard. We all developped sort of "alliances" with other guests where we told them all we heard, and had enemies that we kept things from and tried to incriminate! Thank you host-party, for a GREAT murder mystery game!

Murder in the Wild West

We had 13 people for this party and we had an excellent time. Everybody was told ahead of time to come and stay in character and most people did. Nobody solved the murder but there was a lot of good guesses. We are planning on purchasing more and making this a regular get together for all of us.

Murder in the Wild West (Teen)

I''ve been to Murder Mystery games in real life, and I thought, "I would love to do this with my friends in Second Life."  (Second Life is an avatar-driven social network.)  I invited friends from Italy, Sweden, Slovenia, and the US.  I hosted the party at my "villa" in Second Life, and we all had a wonderful time!  I wish I had thought to take pictures.  These parties work just as well in Second Life as they do in real life.  I highly recommend it.

Desperate Wives Murder

We had 54 people attend ... and all had a blast.   Using Host-Party tools I "borrowed" 48 other characters from other Host-Party games... I did have to ''adapt'' their character in some cases to ''fit'' the theme, but it worked great.

We had 5 people guess correctly the murderer.  3 of those 5 had the method and motive mostly correct.

It was an amazing night.

Cheers,
Marilin

Murder on the High Seas

This is a great one for beginners or for people who are a little shy (this is scripted even though it says it isn''t).    The host definitely needs to help out a bit because the order is a bit confusing.

We had a great time and it was definitely tricky enough that we had several opinions on "who dun it" at the end!

Death Before Dinner

Did this mystery at my birthday. I had the role of Top Gun, which was nice to facilitate the flow of the game. Instead of questioning the people about what they knew about the suspects, the guests asked each other instead, which made nice small discussions going on in the room. At the final vote, 7 out of 9 guests voted for the right suspect, which was surprising to me that so many got it right. We did the game in Norwegian, even if the notes were in English. This added to some confusion for some of the guests that weren''t that skilled in English, but with the interaction, it worked out right.

I liked the game, even though it took up most of the time for the birthday party, so if you want people to socialize outside the characters, be aware that you need some hours to complete the game, and people will be talking about it both before and after playing, so it takes up a lot of time. From this experience I would recommand that you have this game for the full night, and not expect too much other program than that.

We also had a game that I found on another website, where people got mission during the party to kill another guest member with a special weapon (e.g. a shoe) at a special location (e.g. in the library). This was a fun game.

We had a lot of fun and I would recommend this game to others as well.

A Murder in Margaritaville

My family spent a week in the Outer Banks.  I bought this mystery for entertainment for one evening.  Everyone was given a part to play and they knew a month in advance who they were going to be.  We had an absolute blast.  From the moment they all came to dinner it was on.  They were so into character that I could not believe it.  I laughed so much until I cried.  I would do it again in a heartbeat.  Only one person solved the murder.  Oh and the song to be sung to Margaritaville went over smooth as silk.  My whole family enjoyed the evening more that I can tell you.

The Railburn Affair

This was a fun and fairly easy first time murder mystery.  We used it for my son''s 21st Birthday Party.  We decided we should have dressed in character to make it easier for everyone to remember who was who.  We had such a great time that at the end of the party we began planning for our next murder mystery party.  Thank you for making my son''s 21st Birthday a night we will never forget.

Deadly Ever After

This is our second Mystery and both have been done at a cottage.
Last year we did Shore Secret (teen version) and the atmosphere by the lake lent to the detail. This year, the cottage and deck itself added to the Western theme. I noticed a difference in the scripting between the two levels of games. The teen version gave suggestions for dramatic improvisation whereas the adult version of Wild West offered specific scripts, which was welcomed in the case of Lowerwatha.  One character, Little Careless, was played by a dog. "She had had a bit too much to drink in the saloon so couldn't speak." Again, I customized the script to include her presence and gave opportunity for characters to speak to her, or gesture and make comments about her. It was hilarious!

We had a lot of fun preparing costumes and even a set which consisted of painted up brown packing paper to look like a bar and also a drawing of a staircase mounted on a doorway. Looking forward to the next game and intend to build on the good ideas that come from your website.
Thanks.

Murder in the Wild West

This game was defintely a good buy. I played Gwen Dafoe for my 14th birthday, nearly a year ago, and it is still fresh in my memory. I would definitely recommend it for girls no younger than 12, and also, it is a good idea for a parent/guardian to introduce what would happen. Some of my guests had the whole idea of the game figured out, whereas some came, totally lost and confused about what they had to do. Costumes make the game super fun, and I would encoruage you to go all out. Don''t be shy! Put guests in roles they would find amusing, normal, but not intimidating or too unusual. I loved this game so much, I will defintely use Host Party again for my birthdyqa this year :)

The Hip-Hop Murder

The game was so fun, everyone enjoyed it. my friends were so excited to play and didn''t want to stop. Then at the end no one guessed the right person, our theories  were different and some  weren''t even close, but we just laughed it off.

Death of a Teen Idol

The Pink Lace Diamond was a wonderful game. We had so much fun, we laughed so hard that tears formed in our eyes. When the hotel cleaner ran in screaming, she caught one of the actors off guard he said " damn, girl you scared me so bad, I forgot my line" this was too funny. Sharing clues from table to table really worked. Everyone was on the same page this night, if you had any problems or concerns they were left at the door. Thanks so much!

P.S. We''re planning another event.

The Pink Lace Diamond

We did a bridal shower changing the script a bit to make it so it was a cocktail party on a cruise ship.

The guests LOVED playing roles instead of playing "bridal bingo", really got into their roles, and we all had so much fun.

Thanks for getting us started and for providing a site and game that was so enjoyable.

I think that overall the party the party went well. Everyone seemed to have a good time and there was no fighting at all. They got it well and they were from 9-11 and we had 6 people and we finished in 2 hours.

Death of a Teen Idol

Fairy Games was the perfect party for our nine year old guests. It allowed them to dress up, act, play and problem solve. We used the suggestion to use baby powder in the posion letters and they really thought it was posion. They screamed when they discovered the identity of the assassin. We only used the required  activities in round one, round three and four- and it still lasted 3 hours, including dinner, cake and presents.  We would highly recommend this party and look forward to doing more mystery birthday parties!

Fairy Games

A very simple, straightforward game which involved little deduction, no intriguing alibis - ideal for beginners and the geriatric, but we had a great time. A sunny evening, excellent buffet and 14 players mostly well-used to ad-libbing all contributed! The props were easy: we drew an outline of the ''body'' on the ground and borrowed cones and tape, with a genuine bloodstained dibber. The balloons were labelled CHAG.
